If your revenue missed the mark, even by a small measure, $4 million instead of $5 million, $10 million instead of $12 million, $1.5 million instead of $2 million—who’s responsible? Was it poor execution, lack of accountability, or unclear strategy? If your net profit didn’t reflect the risk you take as an owner, that’s a problem. The economy, competition, interest rates—those are distractions. The truth is, your income statement and balance sheet are your scorecard. They reflect how well you executed, period.
