We employ a professional white collar workforce in the tech industry. As companies went remote, we say coastal companies materially impacting salary expectations of our Midwest team over the past six months.

We had to more than double our normal annual increase budget to make sure we retained our staff. Depending on the role saw compensation increase 5-20%, which sounds like a lot until you realize they were getting offers for 30-50% more compensation from companies not based in the Midwest.

I agree with the Twitter post, the market moved and the salaries have gone up. You don't see any of those article about Amazon who hired 500k new employees last year. As business leaders you have to adapt and change your business, Covid forced 10 years of change into a single year.
