I read the piece on Clearlink CEO James Clarke with the same sort of morbid fascination with which you might watch a train wreck. We should use that whole speech as a case study in the Small Giants Community to examine all the ways in which this tone deaf approach bordering on sociopathy, almost perfectly illustrates what NOT to do if you want to create a winning culture. I had a visceral reaction to the (misquoted) 1940 Churchill “Blood, [toil] & tears and sweat” reference, which WSC used in his inaugural speech as PM weeks before D-Day and the prospect of “our island home” being overrun by “a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime”, not exactly comparable to the situation of a provider of “information resource for sanitary supply distributors, building service contractors and in-house cleaning professionals” experiencing a slowdown in business conditions.
